2004-03-06 - 1:02 p.m. I'm in Italy at the moment spending relaxing quality time with my family and old friends, while working for a non-profit that deals with international development projects and sponsorship programs. I will be heading back to the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area at the beginning of May to spend some more relaxing quality time with friends and loved ones there, while attending a French Conversation and West African culture course in the hopes of refreshing my high-school French! I've been reading a lot of online journals written by current Mauritania PC Volunteers as well as emailing back and forth with a few of them. I am getting slightly nervous at this stage of my preparation. Nervous about my language skills, nervous about the upcoming challenges... it doesn't seem to be a "breezy" assignment, many say it is considered one of the most challenging PC countries with one of the highest dropout rates: that scares me a bit I have to admit! I did enter this whole adventure aware of the challenges ahead... I will just have to remind myself of the reasons why I joined, of the satisfactions I will encounter, of the ambitions and goals I have. Right??? Right!! :-) Ok then... I will update this journal in a couple of months probably. Till then au-revoir! (Did I spell it right??) Love to all and thank you in advance for your support, emails, letters, packages, notes, photographs, etc.! (hint hint!) Jordy
